This is the title of the Washington Post editorial for today, Sunday October 28. Read it.
Today I will go to church and I am sure in our intercessory prayers we will pray for the latest victims of hate and the gun fueled culture of our country. What I want from my worshipping congregation is outrage, hurt, soulful lamentation that connects us to scripture, and a connection to action now. How many of our worshipping communities will supply these emotional and practical ways forward this morning?
The Post editorial opens, “Refuse to become accustomed even as mass shootings become customary.” Our worshipping communities can support us in the hard, hard and necessary emotional/spiritual space of refusing to become accustomed. The Post can say it. Our faith communities can do it. Will yours today?
